Last week some of our children were invited over to St James’ Church for a ‘frugal’ lent lunch and a chance to get to know some of the members of the church community. The Academy Council and Worship monitors went over to church with Miss Tummon and Mr Brown and were greeted with a variety of delicious soups, bread, cheese, grapes and other treats!

The children ate their lunch at a table consisting of St James’ children and some elderly members of the church. To begin with, the children were nervous, however as soon as the football talk started rolling they were more in their comfort zone. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to show off their knowledge about popular culture and their interests and ask their own questions to the church community. Proudly, the children spoke about St James’ school with warmth and were delighted to tell their hosts about their important role within school.

At the end of lunch, the children were reluctant to return to school as they had such a lovely time. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our links with the church community across generations more in the future.
