Our Very Own Times Tables Rockstars!

Throughout Year 4, we have been completing weekly times tables tests. This has offered everyone the opportunity to progress through the different awards and gain their bronze, silver, gold and platinum certificates. It has been wonderful to watch so many success stories, with every single child so much more confident than they were at the start of the year.

The incredibly awesome Times Tables Rockstars app has been crucial to supporting this, with children rocking out at home to practise their rapid recall of the tables.

All of which meant that we were well prepared for our end of year Multiplication Tables Check. As of next year, all Year 4’s across the country will be required to complete the test, however this year St. James’ opted to complete a trial run with everyone in the current year group.

The test contained 25 multiplication tables questions in which the children have six seconds to answer each question. A challenge, but one they all rose to brilliantly.

We are so thrilled with the children for being resilient and giving the test a go and would like to say a huge congratulations in particular to those who achieved full marks – yes, 25/25!  We are very aware that this did not just happen overnight and is a real testament to all of the practise that has been going on at home; hard work really does pay off.

What an example and challenge set for next year’s Year 4 – St. James’ very own Times Tables Rockstars!

And it’s just been announced that there is now a TT Rockstarz App – which means it can be downloaded to your devices and children can still play it wherever you are over the summer holidays!!  Information from the company is below:

Dear Parent/Carer,

Good news! You can now use the Times Table Rock Stars app on your mobile or tablet. It’s a free download and available from the Amazon, Android and Apple apps stores by searching for “Times Tables Rock Stars”.

Children login with their usual usernames and passwords.

For most impact, remember to get your child playing little and often. TTRS recommend 3 minutes a day, four or five times a week.
