Parents’ Information evening

Last night we were delighted to welcome over 80 of our parents back to school to hear about our new ‘ARK’ PSHCE curriculum – a whole program of learning that stretches from Reception to Year 6 and is designed to try and combat the increases we have seen in anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties and self worth in children across the primary age range – one of the key strategy areas that the Governors have identified for us to work on following last year’s community consultation on our future priorities.  We then split off and all parents were able to choose from workshops about Writing and Grammar, Maths Calculation Methods, Phonics or Practical Parenting Strategies to help children to regulate and manage their feelings.

We were really pleased with all the positive feedback we received and so grateful to everyone for their engagement and enthusiasm.  We are keen to put on more of these evenings but want to walk the fine balance between meeting everyone’s needs and providing useful information, against putting on too many of these evenings that then lose their usefulness and there are not enough numbers attending to make it worthwhile.  So, thank you so much again to everyone who came last night, thank you to the teachers and TAs who gave their time to support the evening and please let us know if there are any more areas that you would really value learning about – we can’t wait to do it again!

I was literally bursting with pride last night! What a fantastic project. I hope this is rolled out across the whole of the UK. I work in early years and I am thinking about how I can implement elements into our practice. Thank you all so much, the evening was fantastic, well done to everyone involved. How lucky are our children to have such wonderful caring teaching staff and leaders around them.

This again supports the reason we love St James and all that it stands for. The community within and the family feel. The concern for wellbeing and not just results. The child as a whole person and who they are and what they can achieve all round. I love the fact it challenges them to think beyond themselves too and what impact they have on others and the enviroment. Plus I love knowing how to practically support this as a parent. Thankyou St james and all you amazing staff!

You captured me deep in thought in Mr Slattery’s ‘class’. Where on earth was this teaching style 40 years ago, I’d have probably done so much better in maths. Bravo, to a great evening. The ARK curriculum is inspiring and all our kids will benefit so much from this.
