In the world that we live in, we rarely have cash on our person to show our children how to calculate the money we need to buy things or to show giving change. Year 2 have had the opportunity to do just this in a maths lesson where they practised their addition and subtraction skills when playing shops. The children took it in turns to play the role of shopkeeper and customer where the customer had to collect the money they needed and the shopkeeper had to check they had been given the right money. This was a very successful lesson which helped Year 2 to put their learning into a practical context and something we hope to continue to revisit throughout the year.
