Our Indoor Athletics team were triumphant on Wednesday evening at Avonbourne school, where they pitted their skills against 5 other primary schools in league 3 of the Bournemouth Indoor Athletic league.
The St James team were outstanding from start to finish and it soon became apparent that we were going to be in the top 2 schools, needed to qualify for the town finals.
In total, out of the 6 track races, the girls won 3, 2nd in 2 and 3rd in the other, and our boys won 4 races and were 2nd in the other 2.
The Field events seemed to follow a similar pattern with great performances in the standing long jump, the standing triple jump, the chest throw, the vertical jump, the speed bounce and the javelin.
The evening was finished off by both girls and boys winning their 4 x 1 relays, much to the excitement of our parents, who were by far the noisiest and supportive!
At the end the results were announced and St James girls won with a total of 126 points, a massive 32 points higher than the 2nd place team, and the boys were winners with 124 points.
This meant that not only have we qualified for the Bournemouth finals, we had finished at the top of our group.
We are so proud of everyone involved, it was a real team effort and the support and encouragement was fantastic to see. It clearly helped the athletes to perform!
The Bournemouth finals take place on Wednesday 15th March at 3.45pm at Avonbourne school, where St James will be joined by St Marks, St Walburgas, St Katharines, Corpus Christi and Hillview schools. I’m sure it will prove to be a very exciting and tense affair, with the best of the best competing for a place in the County finals.
