Gem from ‘Home Thrown Studio’ came to visit year 5 today.  The children talked about what they had been learning about sculptures and sculptors so far this term and impressed her with their knowledge.  Gem talked about the work of Andy Goldsworthy and Anthony Gormley discussing the techniques they use to create their sculptures.

The children then experimented with clay and used natural materials to create imprints.  Gem showed the children how to mold the clay into a cone shape and how to connect separate pieces of clay.  After desining their model the real fun began!

The children were creative, imaginative and inspired.  Their models have been taken to Gem’s studio to be fired (we hope none explode!). They will be returned in a couple of weeks.

Thank you for organising this activity, my son really enjoyed it and can’t wait to see the end product.
