On Thursday 2nd November, St James were invited to an under 11 tournament held by AFC Bournemouth Academy.

Teams from all over the South of England were invited and split into 3 groups of 5.

We started well with James and Alfie scoring to help us defeat Broadstone middle school 3-2. In our next game we drew 0-0 with Sunninghill school with Will and Dan going close.

In our 3rd group game we beat Holy Trinity school 1-0 thanks to a last minute winner from Ben.

Finally, we played Downlands, needing a draw to qualify for the Semi finals. After going 1 goal behind early on, the boys battled hard. Eventually, their hard work paid off and James duly obliged with a ferocious shot that hit the back of the net in the last minute!

So, on to the semi finals, the draw was made. Broadstone Middle school v Mudeford Juniors and St James v … St Katharines! Bearing in mind St Katharines had defeated us last month in the Predator Cup at the Semi Final stage, 2-0, the boys were a little nervous.

Straight from the kick off we attacked, Alfie scored, then 1 minute later, James scored! The boys battled hard and managed to control the game from that point. We had won, 2-0! Onwards to the final.

After normal time, and golden goal extra time, Mudeford and St James’ could not be separated, neither team scoring. The dreaded penalty shoot out awaited!

Tom was imperious in goal, saving 4 penalties, and with Alfie and Finlay scoring, we went on to win. The boys received their medals in glorious November sunshine, met by rapturous applause of parents and AFC Bournemouth Youth team players and staff.

Congratulations boys, you were brilliant, we are so proud!

That feeling!

The Stars in stripes!

The wait for the semi finals.
