Beach Schools Sessions 2 & 3

Beach Schools: Sessions 2 & 3

Our exciting new project for St. James’ ‘Beach Schools’ continues.  In session 2, children started with a new challenge to dig a hole and line it in order to be able to retain water. Children then experimented with digging tunnels and waterways between their holes and tested different structural designs! We then learnt about the tides and how the Moon’s gravity affects the level of the tides at different times of the year – an integral piece of Beach Schools learning!

In session 3, children built mini rafts using beach materials and learnt how to bind them together using string. They then attached a mast and sails before testing the boats to see if they would float! The results were stunning and the children worked collaboratively to produce some truly excellent rafts which really worked!
