A Perfect Prayer?

At the start of a new year we ask the children to write prayers that they may come back to at times during the year.  Sometimes we use them in worship, sometimes in class time and they are available on worship tables in classrooms.   Last week, one young man in Year 5 produced a prayer with such an authorial voice, depth and such exceptional metaphor and imagery that we felt we should share it with the community and use it as a booming, optimistic and hopeful ‘welcome back’ to everyone.  Amen to that!

‘Dear God,

Thank you for the gift of education in every form.  As our children prepare to start a new year may confidence be their foundation, may grace be their guide and may hope be their compass towards a bright future.

I pray they would have eyes to see the needs of those around them and a heart to live well.  May they face each day with positivity knowing that no matter what comes their way – they do not have to face it alone.

Amen’
