As you are already aware, year 1 and the rest of the school have been learning about World War One. The children were intrigued to discover that ‘Lizzie the Elephant’ (a former circus performer) was recruited to transport steel machinery. Steel was popular during this time and was used to make the soldiers’ helmets. In addition to this, the children have also been using their phonics knowledge to sound out words associated with the circus.
As a result of all their hard work, we held a drama workshop and taught the children different aspects of the circus.
