Year 6 Football County Finals Report

By Danny Newman. (Year 6)

On Friday 30th November St. James’ Year 6 football team traveled to Littledown to compete in the County Finals.

St. James’ v. St Marys

In the first game of the group stages St Marys drew first blood with a goal in the first half. After a rousing team talk at half time St. James’ returned to the pitch full of energy. An own goal by St Marys brought the scores level and then Danny slid the ball home to seal a 2-1 victory over St Marys.

St.James’ v. Corpus Christie

After Charlie opened the scoring St. James’ way with an epic top corner finish, hopes were high for St. James’ against their local rivals Corpus Christie. After an early goal from Corpus Christie in the second half to even things out, Danny then found the net with a venomous volley to put St. James’ back in front. Extremely deep into the second half Corpus Christie slid one home to end the match a 2-2 draw.

Quarter finals – St. James’ v. Highcliffe

Highcliffe scored in the first half but after St. James’ goalkeeper Leo found the back of the net late into the second half, scores were level at full time. Nothing could divide the teams after extra time which meant only one thing – penalties…

Sadly on this occasion it didn’t go St. James’ way. This meant that St. James’ then had to battle it out for fifth place.

St. James’ v. Talbot Primary

With no goals in the first half St. James’ went on to win the match 2-1 with goals in the second half coming from Ollie and Danny.

St. James’ v. St Georges

Danny put St. James’ ahead in the first half but two goals from St Georges in the second half meant they won the match.

Despite the disappointment on the day St. James’ finished sixth overall in the county finals and that is a great achievement.
