This half term, Year 4 have been learning all about the Rainforest in our topic ‘Why Should We Care?’ The children have become very passionate about putting a stop to deforestation and for animals habitats to stop being destroyed.

Whilst researching about deforestation, we watched the famous ‘Iceland’ advert regarding the production of palm oil and after a group discussion we decided to write persuasive letters to some major supermarkets trying to reduce the products that contain this. Can you believe that 1 in 10 products on the supermarket shelves contain palm oil?

Three of the letters were chosen from each class to be sent to Tesco’s HQ. This provided a real purpose for our writing and the children who wrote the winning letters even walked to the postbox to deliver them! We look forward to getting a response from the company and will update you when we do.
