Year 3 were fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to work with Treehouse Theatre to rehearse and perform ‘Romans – A Play in a Day’. The name of the play does exactly what it says on the tin. The children have one day to rehearse and perform a play. Having been split into four groups, Year 3 were given 40 minutes to rehearse their ‘Act’ with Ben from Treehouse Theatre in the morning. The children had lines to learn and stage directions to remember and a very short time to rehearse.

Whilst the children were waiting for their chance to rehearse, they were in the classroom doing some Roman art activities. In one classroom the children made Roman coins. In another, Year 3 designed and made their own Roman mosaics. Finally, the children made wreaths for their heads.

In the afternoon, Year 3 all came together to watch the play come to life. Each group performed their act to the rest of the hall which culminated in a play with 4 acts which brought the Roman period to life. The children were fantastic and all performed with enthusiasm. We loved watching each child get involved and are very grateful to Treehouse Theatre for the opportunity.
