Well, what a start to life in Year 4! The children have really settled into their new routines and have been a credit to the St. James’ family. We’ve also fully committed to our new whole school project ‘St. James’ Saves the World’ – watch this space for our pledges next week…

Also, we are now fully in the routine of Maths and English lessons and what a first Maths lesson we had… Top Trumps!

In our first lesson all Year 4 children were fully engrossed in Top Trump battles. Not only was this really fun and engaging, it also involved lots of key Maths skills including reading larger numbers (in some cases with negative numbers and numbers up to 100,000!), along with ordering and comparing numbers. It introduced us to our new unit of place value perfectly, laying the foundations for everything we will do in Maths this year.

We must also say a huge thank you to all families who offered their Top Trumps for the lesson, it really did help to make it a huge success!
