On Wednesday 18th September, our Year 6 boys’ football team were invited to play in the Moyles Court Football festival.
We were placed in Group C.
In the first game, we played Forres Sandal Manor school and won 3-0, with Thomas scoring a hattrick.
Game 2 saw us play Yarrells, and after twice being behind, drew 2-2, with Jonathan scoring twice.
Game 3 was against Lee Hurst Swan school, where we won 3-0 and Sidney grabbed a brace to add to Lucas’ goal.
In game 4 we played Clayesmore school, where Sidney gave us a 1-0 victory, with a ‘Bergkamp’ style finish.
We had won the group with 3 wins and 1 draw. Onto the quarter finals, where Castle Court school awaited. They were defeated 3-1 with goals from James and a couple from Thomas.
The semi finals are always tense affairs, and Dumpton school provided stiff opposition, Reece opened the scoring with a 30 yard special, but they equalised. The game looked to be heading to extra time, until Henry produced his long range effort that soared past the goalkeeper.
We were through to the final against Baden Powell school.
Unfortunately, Fin conceded an early goal and we looked destined to finish runners up, until one of their defenders accidentally let the ball hit his hand in the area, meaning Thomas was able to calmly slot away the resulting penalty.
After extra time, the 2 teams could not be separated and the game finished 1-1.
The dreaded penalty shoot out was upon us.
4 penalty takers form each team were required and it was time for Fin to try to be the hero in goal.
Thomas stepped up first……saved!
Their turn…..saved!
James ran up and….. saved!
Baden Powell …..saved!
Lucas strode up and….GOAL!
Baden Powell …..scored.
Henry our captain was last to go…..GOAL!
If Finlay saves the next penalty, we win…….
SAVED!!!!!
St. James’ are champions and each received a medal. Congratulations to all involved and a big thank you to the parents for shouting and cheering.
Onwards and upwards!
