It’s been a great start to the term in Reception and the children have immersed themselves into our new topic ‘Zog’s Alien Adventure’.   Over Christmas, ‘Zog’, had been hiding in our classroom and left an important message for the children…  he is intrigued by Earth and wants to find out more about our wonderful planet!

The first country that Zog wanted to find out about was India and we were delighted to invite Mr and Mrs Bakshi into our classroom to tell us all about their culture. We learnt about the weather, looked at beautiful photographs of a swamp deer, blue bull and peacock. We also learnt about the different festivals of Diwali, Holi and the Kite Festival. The children were fascinated to find out more about the Taj Mahal as they have been constructing this iconic building during our continuous provision (demonstrating our learning value ‘Team Teamwork’ beautifully!).

Mrs Bakshi kindly cooked us an exquisite Indian feast which the children enjoyed sampling during snack time. Most of the children were keen to try new foods such as onion bhajis, gulab jamun and pakoras.

The next country that ‘Zog’ wanted to find out about was Australia.  Sadly, many of us are aware of the devastating fires that have affected livelihoods, homes and millions of animals. Therefore, Reception have decided to raise funds for the Australian Bushfire Emergency Fund. We will be holding a cake sale on Friday 31st January outside the front of the school at 3:05pm. We hope to see lots of you there, supporting this very worthy event while savouring a slice of cake or two!
