D&T

“The nature of design and technology is such that it should provide opportunities for pupils to engage in activities that are challenging, relevant and motivating. This should give pupils enjoyment, satisfaction and a sense of purpose.” (DATA Primary Guidance, p4)

At St. James’ Primary Academy, we intend that children should master Design and Technology to such an extent that they can go on and have careers within DT and make use of it effectively in their everyday lives. We aim to raise children’s aspirations and form connections with what they do in the classroom into different pathways.

Our children will be taught it in a way that ensures a progression of skills and follows a sequence to build on previous learning. Children will be able to transfer these skills across a range of subjects to be creative, equipping them to solve problems and identifying a variety of solutions and give them the skills to deliver these and ensure they make progress.
