Year 2

Week Beginning 13th May 2024

The sun has finally made an appearance and how wonderful it feels! Year 2 have come to the end of another brilliant week. The children have written some fantastic adventure stories, using some knowledge of Mexico they have learnt throughout the project.

Maths

Next week, the children will be consolidating the four operations in maths: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in preparation for tests the following week.

English

Next week, the children will be moving onto a new genre of writing; non-chronological reports. We will be exploring more interesting facts and information about Mexico to create our own reports.

Phonics

Next week, the children will read and spell 's' saying /zh/ sound.

Parent Information Sheet

Worship theme of the week:

Next week, our worship theme will be Ascension Day.

Please note that our curriculum overview for this term is at the bottom of the page.

Whole Class Read

We will be practising our comprehension using a range of previous test questions on several different texts.

Reading Vipers

Key Information:

Please aim to read with your child at home three times per week, as they will earn a reading raffle ticket for every three reads! In school, an adult will read with your child once per week and change their Rhino Reader book once each week too. In addition, children have ownership over their 'sharing book', which they can change themselves and pick which book they'd like to read.

We are trying to boost vocabulary within our writing in Year 2, so if you come across any powerful vocabulary whilst reading with your child, please ask them to note it in their reading record.

Please wear P.E. kits on a Thursday. Thursday will also be our Library day.

Year 2 Common Exception Words

Homework

Your child will be bringing home a home learning choice sheet  next week which we ask that you complete over the duration of the half term.  We will also be sending home a list of the common exception words that Year 2 children are expected to learn. We will not be testing the children on these spellings but we actively encourage children to use these words in their writing throughout the year.

My Maths

This week the mymaths learning tasks are on a mixture of multiplication, division and subtraction crossing ten, to support their learning next week.

Have a brilliant weekend!
