Year 2
Week beginning 9th December 2024
We have had an excitable week in Year 2! We absolutely loved the Frogs drama workshop cannot wait to show off what we learnt on our superhero day next week. We have been carrying on with our Christmas practice and the Year 2 adults are all so impressed with how well the children have memorised the songs!
Reminder that next Tuesday is our project outcome 'Superhero Day', where the children can dress up as superheroes!
Key Information:
Please aim to read with your child at home three times per week, as they will earn a reading raffle ticket for every three reads! In school, an adult will read with your child once per week and change their Rhino Reader book once each week too. In addition, children have ownership over their 'sharing book', which they can change themselves and pick which book they'd like to read.
We are trying to boost vocabulary within our writing in Year 2, so if you come across any powerful vocabulary whilst reading with your child, please ask them to note it in their reading record.
As mentioned at the parent information evening, please see attached a copy of the power-point slide we went through on the night.
Maths
In maths, the children will be learning how to count money and how to pick the correct coins to make a given amount.
English
In English, the children will be publishing their poems and writing persuasive letters to Santa.
We will be using the Key Stage 1 reading VIPERS to build up our comprehension skills.
Phonics
Next week, the children will be resuming their phonics lessons and moving onto the 'al' and 'il' graphemes saying the /l/ phoneme.
