Year 2

Week Beginning 7th July 2025

We have been planting sunflower seeds to test the different conditions that can grown in. We will track the results over the next two weeks. We have also been writing non chronological reports on Mexico. We are looking forward to continuing these next week.

Below are the project overview and homework for the new term ahead. We will begin our new project 'Mexico'.

English

Next week, the children will continue writing non chronological reports on Mexico. They will learn techniques to support their writing.

Maths

In Maths, the children will be continuing to learn all about statistics. They will understand how block graphs and pictograms can be used to process data.

Phonics

The children will be revisiting all the sounds and spelling patterns that we have learnt over the year.

Key Information:

Please aim to read with your child at home three times per week, as they will earn a reading raffle ticket for every three reads! In school, an adult will read with your child once per week and change their Rhino Reader book once each week too. In addition, children have ownership over their 'sharing book', which they can change themselves and pick which book they'd like to read.

We are trying to boost vocabulary within our writing in Year 2, so if you come across any powerful vocabulary whilst reading with your child, please ask them to note it in their reading record.
