Year 2

Week Beginning 4th December 2023

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The elf has appeared in our classrooms and the children loved seeing it hide in different places on Friday! Next week, we will be busy getting ready for our Christmas performance. Some children will have lines and all the children will be singing!

Worship theme of the week:

Advent

Curriculum this week:

Please note that our curriculum overview for this term is at the bottom of the page.

English

Next week, we will continue our learning on persuasive writing. The children will begin to edit their own work and improve it too!

Maths

In maths, we will spend a week looking at money. The children will be recognising the value of coins and notes and adding different coins together.

Phonics

Next week, we are moving onto adding er and est to words that end in y.

Parent Information Sheet

Whole-class reading

During our whole-class reading lessons, the children will be using Key Stage 1 VIPER skills to answer questions on the famous poem 'Footprints in the Sand'.

Key Information:

Please aim to read with your child at home three times per week, as they will earn a reading raffle ticket for every three reads! In school, an adult will read with your child once per week and change their Rhino Reader book once each week too. In addition, children have ownership over their 'sharing book', which they can change themselves and pick which book they'd like to read.

We will not be testing the children on these spellings but we actively encourage children to use these words in their writing throughout the year.

My Maths

This week the mymaths learning tasks are on addition and subtraction, which the children have been learning in school this week.
