Into the Blitz: Year 6's WW2 day

Year 6 stepped back in time this week for our WW2 Day and what a fantastic day it was! The children arrived dressed as WW2 soldiers, Land Girls or evacuees, and we were super impressed with the effort they put into their costumes!
Throughout the morning, we explored 'Make Do and Mend' by experimenting with stitching, linking to our ongoing Sashiko-inspired DT work. The children showed great concentration, creativity and resilience while producing some excellent designs!
To add to the immersive experience, an air raid siren sounded throughout the day, sending everyone quickly under the tables into our makeshift shelters—a powerful way to help the children understand what life was like during wartime Britain.
Later, the hall was filled with music as we learnt a WW2 dance, practising the steps to the 'Lindy Hop', ready to celebrate with our very own VE Day party, complete with songs, biscuits and dancing—just like those celebrating the end of the war in 1945.
The children threw themselves into every part of the day and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. A memorable step into the past for our young historians – Well done Team 6!
