PE

At St James', we are committed to ensure that all pupils receive high quality, well planned PE, delivered by confident and well trained teachers. We aim to engage and inspire all pupils to learn new skills, be confident and enjoy sports at our school, prioritising mental health and well-being. Children leave the school equipped to enjoy sport for all its health and social benefits. For those who relish the competitive element, they gain the skills, confidence and relevant experience to succeed.

For PE, we predominantly use the ‘Getset4PE’ scheme of work. We use this scheme because it has been written with careful consideration of the aims of the National Curriculum and ensures that children are given a wealth of opportunities to develop their physical movement skills by participating in progressive activities that are designed to inspire and engage children. Each lesson plan has specific information on key teaching points to support teachers with their subject knowledge and further guidance is given on how to deliver activities or specific skills.

We are lucky to have an amazing selection of after school clubs on offer for the children and these can change throughout the year, so that they are seasonal to the weather. Please find the Extra-Curricular Clubs Timetable for the Autumn Term below.

Our Curriculum really allows children to develop key skills such as balance and coordination which are key areas of development in Early Years and Key Stage 1, before progressing into more of traditional and competitive sports like Football and Netball. Throughout their time at St James, our pupils will experience a range of activities, internally by our skilful staff, but also externally by trained professionals. We are lucky to have a brilliant relationship with our local community who are keen to share their expertise with our children.
