DT Club - Marble Run outcome

Last term in Design and Technology Club, pupils were busy designing and building large-scale marble runs, and the results have been fantastic. From the very first sketches to the final constructions, children explored how ideas can grow and change through hands-on making. The finished marble runs were creative, ambitious and full of clever features, showing just how much thought and teamwork went into each design.

Throughout the project, children learned about the full design process: designing, iterating, testing and evaluating. They quickly discovered that not every idea works first time — and that this is a valuable part of learning. By testing their marble runs and adapting sections that didn’t quite work, pupils developed resilience, problem-solving skills and an understanding of how real designers and engineers work every day.

Mrs Hetherington shared the following message with parents alongside videos of the final creations: “Please find some videos of your children's creations from Design and Technology club here. They have worked really hard this term to create marble runs. We have learnt about designing, iterating, testing and evaluating. Most importantly we have learnt the value of failure and learning how to adapt our designs if they don't work, something that designers and engineers have to consider every day. Thank you very much for your support with all the cardboard!” We are incredibly proud of the children’s effort, creativity and perseverance throughout the project.
