World Book Day 2026

This year, for World Book Day, we celebrated the theme of linking reading to our hobbies, reminding everyone that books can be enjoyed in so many different ways and can connect to the things we love to do. Most importantly, we celebrated that reading is fun!
Throughout the day, we took part in lots of exciting activities across the school. One of our favourites was Drop Everything and Read. When the bell rang during the day, everyone stopped what they were doing, picked up a book and enjoyed some quiet reading time – including the adults!
We also spent time with our reading buddies, sharing and enjoying books together. Year 3 had a wonderful time at their Reading Café, where they could relax and enjoy books in a cosy setting. Around the school there were also reading scavenger hunts and many other fun activities to celebrate our love of books.
The day ended with Books at Bedtime, where children returned to school in their pyjamas to enjoy a story being read together with a biscuit. Mrs Shephard even read a story in French. Thank you to the staff, Mrs Shephard and some of our Year 6 pupils who gave up their time to support this special event.
Thank you to everyone for the brilliant costumes – it was fantastic to see and hear about everyone's hobbies.
