This week, Tadpoles and Ducklings Class have been excited to welcome their new class pets!
In March, Year 4 enjoyed a residential to Hooke Court to learn all about their project of the Victorians.
When we arrived, we did some investigating of actual Victorian artefacts and also of the main Manor House to learn about its history. We then spent the evening doing some traditional Victorian pass time activities of quilling and decoupage.
On our first full day, we had our Victorian day where we dressed up in our costumes. Throughout the day we took part in a range of activities including Victorian school where we did cross stitching, ink writing, polishing shoes and silver and also learning how to set the table. We also did some traditional Victorian baking of scones, gingerbread and Dorset apple cake, and learnt how to do the laundry the old fashioned way! In the evening, we enjoyed a traditional banquet of a three course meal which was very delicious indeed! We ended our wonderful Victorian day with a campfire, telling some jokes and singing some very catchy songs!
On our final day, we took part in some team building activities where we had to learn to work together to complete lots of different activities.
It was a fantastic trip and lots of learning was done about the Victorians and the children came away with some super knowledge! Also lots of new friendships were made and it was lovely to see these blossom!
It was a pizza-tastic day in Year 3 last week!!
Frogs Drama Session – Exploring the World Through Imagination
Last term in Design and Technology Club, pupils were busy designing and building large-scale marble runs, and the results have been fantastic. From the very first sketches to the final constructions, children explored how ideas can grow and change through hands-on making. The finished marble runs were creative, ambitious and full of clever features, showing just how much thought and teamwork went into each design.
Reception had a wonderful time meeting their Year 5 buddies.
Enjoying our yummy feast of turkey, mashed potato and sweet potato provided by Relish.
🌲 Our First Forest School Adventure! 🌿
Recently, our school community came together in the most heart-warming way. After learning that one of our pupils’ grandparents in Jamaica had been directly affected by a recent event, and after many of the children had seen the wider impact on the news, they felt inspired to take action. Their idea was simple but full of kindness: hold a cake sale to raise money and show support.
The children set up their stalls outside, and, much to everyone’s relief, the rain held off just long enough for the event to go ahead. With the help of families and staff, who baked an incredible range of cakes, biscuits, and sweet treats.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who baked, donated, helped organise, or came along to buy a treat. Your support means so much to the children, and it will make a real difference. The total amount raised was £237.95.
Thank you once again for your kindness and generosity.
Our amazing 'St James’ Planet Protectors' have been hard at work this term, both in the forest school garden and in the classroom!
