About the PSA
About the Parents and Staff Association (PSA!)
Welcome to PSA, the Parents and Staff Association. We hope this gives you more information about who we are and what we do.
What is PSA?
PSA is what is often called a PTA or Parent-Teacher Association but, here at St James' we like to include all of our staff so it is Parent Staff Association. Parents, carers, staff and other friends of the school work together with to support the school in a number of different ways including providing those additional events and resources that enrich children’s experiences at school but which cannot be covered by the school’s budget. We do this through fundraising, organising events for adults and/or children to socialise and have fun!
Who is PSA? – You are!
Everyone who is part of the school community is automatically a member of PSA. So all parents and carers belong to PSA and are welcome at all meetings, the AGM and our events. We try to have at least 2 representatives from each year group on the PSA committee but everyone is welcome.
We understand how busy life can be so we are very open to help for specific events and occasions if you are not able to commit to regular meetings. We try to have an event leader and use different people to organise each event so that we share the load and work together for our children. It is wonderful to have big occasions like our Winter Wonderland or Summer Fayre (held in conjunction with the church) when the whole community comes together but also to have helpers for discos, film nights etc or just to come along to any of our social fundraising occasion. We really hope that YOU will be able to be involved in whatever works for you while your child, or grandchild are at St. James'.

How to get involved.
Meetings take place a couple of times per term to discuss events for the coming months. Parents or carers of a child at St. James’ are automatically members of PSA. We try to vary the time and venue of the meetings so that all can attend. Everybody is welcome, please come along and say ‘hello’. We can offer you tea, coffee and maybe even biscuits! If you can’t make meetings but would like to help out at school events please e mail Victoria at evolutionlets@aol.com to be added to the ‘helpers list’.
To contact PSA committee please email us via the school office.
Being involved with PSA is a great way to get to know other parents at the school and feel part of the school community – as well as making a real contribution to school-life for our children.
What do we do?
PSA activities include Film nights, Christmas craft, Christmas Parties, Winter wonderland, Discos, Easter events, Mother & Father’s Day stalls, Summer Fair, Table top sales, Ice Cream sales, Cake sales, Summer Picnic to welcome new families and social events for adults and for children.
Fundraising is a vital part of our role. The PSA organise events to raise valuable funds for our school and fun activities such as those listed above for the children’s enjoyment. Funds that we have raised over the last few years have contributed to the new website, classroom Christmas gifts and parties, Yea 6 leavers’ bibles and a pantomime for the whole school. We are currently aiming to contribute to the development of an outdoor classroom and playground upgrades.
If you have any ideas about social events or fundraising activities all suggestions are very welcome.
